Observing Marine Ecosystem Structure and Function: From Microbial Communities to Fisheries and Human Health

Dates: Online: July – September | In-person: 27 October – 3 November 2026

Location: INCOIS, Hyderabad, India

This hybrid training will include an

1. online component (July-September 2026), consisting of about ten lectures with live interactive sessions, designed to set the stage for the in-person component
2. an in-person component (27 October to 3 November 2026), which will include formal lectures and computer-based practical sessions at the Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services, INCOIS) in Hyderabad, including a field component in Vembanad Lake in Kochi, India.

Applicants wishing to participate in the in-person component are expected to submit an abstract and take part in the TREVOR-SAFARI Symposium, hosted by the Chemical Oceanography Division, Cochin University of Science and Technology and the Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research in Kochi, India, from 4 to 6 November 2026.

Limited financial support for travel and accommodation for Early Career Ocean Professionals from developing countries is planned.

Multi-sensor satellite ocean colour

Dates: 7 – 11 December 2025

Location: EUMETSAT Headquarters, Darmstadt, Germany

A 5-day training course on Multi-sensor satellite ocean colour will take place from 7 – 11 December, 2025 at EUMETSAT Headquarters in Darmstadt. The course will be hosted by EUMETSAT in conjunction with IOCCG and other partners, after the conclusion of the 6th International Ocean Colour Science Meeting.

Copernicus FRM4SOC Training for in situ Ocean Colour Above-Water Radiometry towards Satellite Validation

Dates: 6 – 20 July 2025

Venue: Venice International University, on the Island of San Servolo.

Hosted By: Institute of Marine Science (CNR-ISMAR), Italy

The Second Edition of the Copernicus FRM4SOC Training for in situ Ocean Colour Above-Water Radiometry towards Satellite Validation will be held in July 2025 in Venice and nearby Acqua Alta Oceanographic Tower (AAOT) in the Adriatic Sea.

PhD students, postdocs, early career researchers, and experts of the Ocean Colour Community will gather for the second time in the frame of the FRM4SOC-2 project for a comprehensive training event on Ocean Colour In situ Above-Water Radiometric Measurements supported by the European Commission Copernicus Programme and NASA.

The training will take place on 6 – 20 July 2025 on the enchanting island of San Servolo in the Venetian Lagoon in Italy and at the nearby Acqua Alta Oceanographic Tower.

The NASA Sponsored Workshop on Calibration and Validation of Ocean Color Remote Sensing is an intensive four-week, cross-disciplinary, graduate-level workshop in optical oceanography will be offered at the University of Maine’s Darling Marine Center (DMC). This workshop is the latest version of the optical oceanography course first offered at the Friday Harbor Laboratories in 1985, and since then in coastal Maine at the DMC and at Bowdoin College’s Schiller Coastal Studies Center:

ESA Ocean Synergy Training Course 2025 (OTC25)

Dates: 22 April – 4 June 2025

Location: aboard the tall ship Statsraad Lehmkuhl

ESA has partnered with NASA and IOCCG to expand the OTC25 to include students from outside Europe. OTC25 is part of the One Ocean Expedition, which is a scientific and educational voyage around the Northern Hemisphere oceans, aboard the tall ship Statsraad Lehmkuhl (https://lehmkuhl.no/en/).
