Class Description
This course integrates measurement, theory, and models to study underwater and remotely-sensed spectral light fields. Course elements include lectures, critical discussions of key papers and concepts, field and laboratory measurements, methods of data analysis, data assimilation into models, round-table discussions, and individual student projects. Students will have the opportunity to measure spectral radiance, irradiance, water-leaving radiance, absorption and scattering coefficients, and other optical properties in the optically-diverse Case II waters of estuarine and coastal Maine. These data sets will be available for use in individual projects. (N.B.: This course was previously was taught at the Friday Harbor Laboratories.)
Registration deadline is April 1, 2001. This is a 3-credit, graduate-level course and enrollment is limited to 16 students. Qualified undergraduates will be considered. Total student cost: $600. Seameo and Biotrop are conducting this training course with the following objectives:
- To introduce remote sensing and GIS techniques as a tool for coastal zone applications for those in coastal zone management;
- To define the methodology for field data collection relating to the satellite data;
- To implement techniques for identification and mapping of coastal ecosystems and resources.
The course fees is USD 750.00, it includes tuition fees, materials and supplies, health insurance , field trips, administrative cost, food and accommodation. Registration closes on September 15, 2001.
