Comparison of Atmospheric Correction Algorithms |
The main objective of the atmospheric correction working group is to quantify the performance of existing atmospheric correction algorithms used by the various ocean-colour satellite sensors. Therefore, the derived products from various ocean-colour missions can be meaningfully compared and possibly merged. Since atmospheric correction is a key procedure in ocean-colour remote sensing, we need to know how derived ocean-colour products from one sensor can be best compared with those from other sensors. We want to quantify the differences among the performance of the atmospheric correction algorithms. In order to compare atmospheric correction algorithms from different sensors, simulated data sets were generated for various atmosphere and ocean optical properties as well as for various solar and viewing geometries. These simulated data sets were distributed to members of the working group and were used to test the performance of atmospheric correction algorithms for MERIS, POLDER, OCTS/GLI, MODIS and SeaWiFS. Preliminary results have been obtained for Case 1 waters and a more complete comparison will be carried out in the near future. Members:
